White van man – the most feared driver on the road!

Or so said the Sunday Times in 1997. Wikipedia summed them up nicely as ‘a tattooed species often with a cigarette in his mouth, who is prone to flashing his lights as he descends on his prey’.

In a report by the Freight Transport Association (FTA), it says his bullying antics have now become a threat to all motorists, and it believes the problem is so serious that a nationwide re-education programme is needed, possibly backed by legislation. “White van syndrome sounds like a joke, but it is an increasingly serious problem. These drivers are bringing the whole haulage industry into disrepute,” said John Hix of the FTA, which represents Britain’s biggest freight movers.

We’ve certainly noticed an increase since the recession in people buying a van and calling themselves a removal man. Over the years we’ve heard countless horror stories from our customers who have fallen victim to this species of removal men. We have even been know to rescue one very upset customer and her belongings when she found herself dumped at the side of the road when her white van man broke down…. ‘if you pay peanuts..’ ahem ahem.

Sometimes at the Move Team we like to poke a tiny bit of harmless fun at the small removal man’s so called ‘professionalism’ or lack thereof!  Of course we are perfectionists ourselves so can afford to mock!

We found this video rather amusing, we think you will too.

So our advice is avoid the white van man and book with a decent removal company – like us!

Removal expert predicts big year for back pain as we move on the cheap

Hundreds of people are going to crick their back and put themselves in agony this year in a misguided attempt to save money while moving house.

And it’s a false economy, as the average price of chiropractor’s fees is MORE than the cost of a professional removal team.

That’s according to removals expert Andy Murphy from the Move Team.

With the number of houses on sale in the UK up by 44% from this time last year, it is likely that some people will end up spending large amounts of money visiting the local chiropractor; simply because they thought they could save money by moving themselves.

Andy said: “Many people will try to cut costs and move home without the help of professionals and this can be very costly, not only to their health but their bank balance too.

Putting your back out is a very painful business and people who are not properly trained and have no experience of lifting heavy items properly are more likely to do themselves injury, rather than enjoying their new home stress free.

“It is important to look at hiring a removals team as an investment in health as injury caused by heavy lifting will need a lot of treatment, and that doesn’t come cheaply.

“I can understand that people want to save money, especially after buying a new house but not moving home safely is likely to cost more than first though.”

Moving home is considered one of life’s most stressful events and injury is likely to add to the stressful nature of the move.

Andy added: “It is important that removal professionals make the moving experience as stress-free as possible and ensure that there are no accidents, but accidents are more likely to occur when people move themselves.

“Moving home should be a joyous occasion and stress often gets in the way, we want to help make moving home something to remember rather than forget.”

The Move Team is a well-established, family-run, man-with-a-van Removals Company and uses a fleet of fully-equipped 3.5 tonne vans that operate seven days a week.

They only send out professional trained removal experts and drivers to assist with the move and have a full insurance policy to ensure that all assets are covered and in safe hands.

Protect your valuables during removals

Dont misplace things in all the disorder of a move – things may get left behind or misplaced.

When moving an office or home its worth keeping security high up on the register of priorities.

The first thing to manage is select a reputable going company. Take recommendations from friends have a good look at the site – look at our references and customer feedback. Always be wary of a company that only has a mobile – they say buy cheap buy twice. Remember this company are going to be moving all your possessions – is it really worth saving a couple of pounds to find all your possessions have disappeared in the back of a rusty transit.

During the move keep the most valuable documents passports, identification, purses and wallets and significant documents – should stay with you other than being boxed up.

Valuable documents such as Bank statements and other important papers should be kept protected. See our article on preparing for your move – it you don’t need the documents any more – shred them!

Overall with a reputable removal firm like the move team you will have no issues – if you are using someone else keep your valuables close – consider labelling boxes – office supplies rather than – Mp3 player, dvd player etc.
